Deschutes Obsidian Stout
Drank it at the Flying Saucer on tap.
I continue to be impressed with the Deschutes brewery. I have not had anything from them that I would not whole heartedly recommend to a friend and this is no exception. This particular beer is in the Imperial Stout style but without the high ABV that most Imperial Stouts tend to have.
Look - black as pitch with a big inch tall head. Looks like a big tan biscuit is on top of used motor oil. I let it sit for a minute and the head didn't decrease at all. I considered trying to float a dime on top of the head but decided that I didn't want to throw random crap in a beer that I might have to fish back out. And who really wants their beer to taste like dirty metal?
Smell - stout. To tell the truth, it looked so good that I forgot to smell it. I cannot smell it without the taste adjusting my thought on it.
Taste/mouthfeel - like a creamy and lovely sauce, Guinness wishes it tasted this good. This is a fantastic beer. Begins with light sweetness and very stout flavor. Dry with a lingering strong coffee flavor.
Drinkability - lowish ABV (6.4%?) makes it a decent beer for an evening. I would buy this at anytime. Course, it will ruin you for all other beers for the rest of the night...
